The Rat is the thirty-third episode of the first season of the animated series, The Great Book of Nature.
Plot[]
In the forest, Mrs. Squirrel goes to great pains to store food for the winter, while the lazy bear goes about collecting chestnuts in a haphazard fashion. Mrs. Squirrel tries to tell the bear it’s courting disaster, but does so in vain, such that when it comes out of hibernation, the bear finds it has nothing to eat.
The hut in which its supplies were stored has collapsed due to excessive humidity, and the chestnuts have all been eaten; some by rats and the rest by worms. At this point, the bear realizes it would have done better to listen to an expert in the art of survival. In the end, thanks to Mrs. Squirrel’s heart of gold, the bear will not die of starvation.
